Jessica Chan

Jessica is a 13-year-old seventh grade student at Ahern Middle School.  She is a proud daughter of Jeff and Lidy Chan, and resides in Foxborough with her parents and older sister, Julie.

She is a high Honors student, and a member of the school band playing both the clarinet and piano.  Jessica is also a member of the Iskwelahang Pilipino Rondalla and plays the banduria and octavina.  She has been a member of PAMAS dance troupe since she was 4-years-old and performs cultural and religious dances.  In sports, she is part of the town travel soccer and basketball teams.

Back in 2006, she led a successful book drive to send books to underprivileged children in the Philippines through Bagong Kulturang Pinoy.

Jessica raised funds to send 3 Filipino school age children in the Philippines whose parents can’t afford to send them to school through Iskwelahang Pilipino and Gawad Kalinga.

She was the recipient of the 2009 Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month “Youth Speaker Recognition Certificate” presented by the Partners in Transportation of Boston, MA.

Winning the title of Binibining Pilipinas Kalayaan 2011 has allowed Jessica to raise funds to aid victims of calamities in the Philippines.  Her community work for the past five years has certainly benefitted those in the local Boston area and abroad.  She hopes to give back to people in need for many years to come.
